Environment4Business.com (e4b) was launched in April
2001 with the aim of providing free and impartial internet-based
advice and information on improving environmental compliance
and performance to SMEs in Cumbria.
Dr Nigel Simons, Head of Environmental Management at
the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and David
Peacock Business Advisor with Business Link Cumbria,
developed the original concept. They recognised that
increasingly stringent environmental European and UK
legislation had left SMEs vulnerable to heavy fines
and at a disadvantage in an increasingly "green"
market place as they often lack the resources and the
staff time to deal with these issues.
The website is managed by a steering group consisting
of
Mr David Peacock (Project Manager) - Business
Link Cumbria
Dr Chris Lowe (Project Officer) - University
of Central Lancashire
Dr Nigel Simons - University
of Central Lancashire
Amanda Cruddas - Environment
Agency
Shirley Newman - Groundwork
West Cumbria
Alex McKenzie - Cumbria
County Council
The project is funded by Business Link Cumbria and
the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
