Through the implementation of renewable energy schemes
your organisation will contribute to reducing the national
demand on non-renewable energy as well as reducing your
CCL payments and improving your public image.
The Government is proposing that 5% of UK electricity
needs should be met from renewables by the end of 2003
and 10% by 2010
In 1989, as part of the Government' Renewable Strategy,
the Non-Fossil Fuel Obligation (NFFO) was introduced.
This required electricity companies to secure specified
amounts of new generating capacity from renewable sources,
allowing renewable energy projects to establish themselves
in the energy market. The NFFO is to be replaced by
the new Renewables Obligation that will require power
suppliers to derive a specified proportion of the electricity
they supply to their customers from renewable sources.
A price cap will limit the cost to consumers.
