The UK uses approximately 600 million aerosols a
year

Recycling aerosols recovers tin and
high grade steel through detinning, steel used in
new steel production and aluminium that has a high
resale value and empty aluminium and steel aerosols
are now accepted by many secondary metal dealers.
In spite of the potential the UK has
been slow in realising the potential in aerosol recycling,
possibly reflecting concerns over health and safety.
However, Germany recycles 60-70 % and France 40 %
of their aerosols. (source of data BAMA) and the general
conclusion is that aerosols can be included in the
waste recycling stream as long as precautions are
taken.
64% of local authorities in the UK recycle
aerosols through can banks or kerbside collection
schemes
