Recycling waste paper reduces the need for wood pulp
from trees, reduces energy requirements by up to 40%
and water consumption by 60%.
88% of recycled paper and board comes from commercial
and industrial waste streams.
Waste paper is graded into 11 different categories:
-
Higher-grade waste (e.g. collected from
paper mill production and office waste) is used
as primary paper pulp substitute and make products
such as printing paper.
-
Intermediate grades, such as newspaper require
further processing to de-ink the paper and can be
recycled to make newsprint.
-
Low grades are used mainly for packaging
material
