The ECS was developed by MAFF in partnership with the
Forestry Commission and provides grants to help in the
establishment of short rotation energy
crops of either willow or poplar (up to £1600
per hectare) and miscanthus (£920 per hectare)
and also to help growers establish producer groups (up
to 50% of set up costs).
In order to be eligible for an ECS grant farmers must
grow at least 3 hectares of energy crops and have an
agreement to supply the harvested crop to an energy
producer located within a reasonable radius from the
crops.
