These pages by no means
cover all the available energy saving measures, but instead
highlight the more commonly used options.
- Electrical Appliances

Encourage guests / visitors and staff to turn
off appliances when not in use

Make sure door seals on existing fridges and
freezers are a tight fit

When replacing equipment purchase energy efficient
appliances with an energy
eco-label rating of A or B

Use Motor controllers (such as Save-a-plug)
that reduce the energy consumption of fridges,
and freezers by approximately 20% by regulating
the amount of electricity going to the motor

Place small kettles (1000W) in bedrooms

Replace hot air dryers in WCs with washable
towels /roller towels

Lighting

Use low energy (<25W) lighting

Use dimmer switches

Use timers to control lighting

Use reflector units in lighting

Use occupancy or light sensitive switches

Space Heating

Fit secondary or double glazing

Fit self closing devices to exterior doors
and make sure doors are draught-sealed

Ensure loft insulation is at least 200 mm thick

different areas based on usage
