University of Central Lancashire

The University of Central Lancashire is a major teaching and research establishment with two main sites : the Preston Campus in Lancashire and the Cumbria Campus at Penrith. The University has strong partnership links with many regional Colleges in Lancashire and Cumbria, and provides a wide range of services to business through its commercial arm University of Central Lancsahire Business Services

This website has been developed in collaboration with the University's Department of Environmental Management, which has bases at both main Campuses. The Department offers a wide range of taught courses in the applied environmental sciences, and undertakes a variety of research into today's environmental problems. It also provides consultancy and training services to environmental agencies and industry, and runs a specialist Analytical Unit providing high precision testing of waste effluents and environmental contaminants.

Dr Chris Lowe gained his doctorate on earthworm interactions in 2000 and is currently part of a group undertaking research into biological methods of land restoration as well as lecturing part time in The Department of Environmental Management at the University of Central Lancashire. He was employed by the E4B steering group to assist in research and development of the web site with particular focus on Environmental Challenges for Business

 

Dr Nigel Simons is Head of the Department of Environmental Management at the University of Central Lancashire, and has offices at both the Preston and Cumbria Campuses of the University. He is responsible for the management of taught courses (undergraduate and postgraduate), research, international liaison and income generating activity, and for a team of some 27 teaching and 14 support staff. Nigel has teaching and research interests in UK environmental regulation, and is currently supervising research into SME compliance with air pollution controls in the North West. He has been responsible for a number of major funded projects including work on Environmental Audit/Review with a major North West manufacturer, and the development of distance learning training packages for the UK waste industry. He is at present working with Going For Green on the development and trialling of a national environmental award scheme for Further and Higher Education, known as 'Ecocampus'.
