is a government funded organisation offering free confidential
and independent advice on a range of environmental issues.
They offer help and advice on getting waste minimisation
projects started, including on-line presentations, training
and software packages. Envirowise can also make Free
Fast Track Visits to your site to help
get your company started on waste minimisation.
The Environment Agency has developed an Environmental
Good Practice Guide for Industry and a video titled
‘Money for Nothing. Your Waste Tips For Free’
which are obtainable free of charge by contacting 0345
337700. Guides and booklets can also be downloaded
direct from the site.
Waste
Minimisation Clubs, allow companies to
share experiences and ideas, gain access to a variety
of help available locally and nationally. More information
at Envirowise who publish a six monthly newsletter dedicated
to Club activities and provide a list of Clubs in your
area.
Waste
and Resources Action Programme (WRAP)
WRAP is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee
by DEFRA, the DTI, and the devolved administrations
of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and was established
in 2001 to promote sustainable waste management.
WRAP has concentrated on creating stable and efficient
markets for recycled materials and products for the
100 million tonnes of waste accounted for by commercial,
industrial and municipal waste concentrating in six
material streams: aggregates, glass, organics, paper,
plastics, and wood, supported by work in three generic
areas: financial mechanisms, procurement, and standards.

WasteWatch
WasteWatch is an independent, not-for-profit organisation
promoting sustainable resource use. The organisation
is funded by a combination of Government, charitable
trusts, the corporate sector, individuals, local authorities,
and the National Lottery. WasteWatch campaigns for the
development of policies aimed at enabling all sectors
of society to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. It also
works to change attitudes and behaviour through projects
and services in communications, education, information
and research.

Waste Minimisation Partnership
The Cumbria Waste Minimisation Partnership (CWMP), launched
in 2003, brings together voluntary, public and privates
sector organisations to deliver waste minimisation and
environmental techniques to businesses throughout Cumbria.
CWMP provides SMEs with access to free environmental
audits conducted by Business Link accredited auditors
as well as regular seminars and training events throughout
the County

Aims to help SME’s improve their environmental
management skills and practices, increase recycling
levels, make better use of raw materials and ensure
that businesses are aware of their responsibilities
towards the environment and environment legislation.
This is achieved by helping buisnesses implement measured
and structured waste and energy minimisation programmes
in their work place.
ENWORKS
Enworks is an environmental business support programme
charged with improving business competitiveness and
environmental performance throughout the North West.
Enworks offers a range of business support services
helping companies to take simple steps to improve environmental
performance and secure a competitive advantage. Enworks
is the first co-ordinated regional scheme to give businesses
free and subsidised services to help them make the environment
profitable and stay on the right side of the environment
laws.

site visits etc), Case Studies of waste minimisation
schemes employed by local companies, local business
