Utilising a product or packaging more than once (e.g.
milk bottles) or re-using it in another application
will reduce the quantity of waste requiring treatment
and disposal, benefiting the environment and your bank
balance.
Many re-use schemes (e.g. re-using plastic supermarket
carrier bags) are aimed at the consumer. However, there
are ways in which both manufacturing and office based
businesses can get involved and incorporate re-use schemes
into their operations.
1. Initiate In-House Schemes
e.g. the re-use of packaging materials such as polystyrene
chips and cardboard used to move items between different
destinations in the same company.
2. Make Use of Outside Organisations
There are a number of both charitable and profit making
organisations, nationally and locally offering re-use
services for a range of products.
